Proposed Budget Cuts Threaten Essential Assistance for Ohio's Most Vulnerable

We are hearing a lot about cuts to the Federal Budget, but additional cuts are being proposed in next year’s Ohio Budget.

First of all, funding for Ohio Food Banks, critical sources of assistance for Ohioans needing food assistance, is slated to be $24.5 million for the year, the level it was five years ago before the Pandemic and which does not take inflation into account. It is estimated that Ohio Food Banks will need $4.93 million more than that to be able to meet the need in the coming fiscal year. For more information, go to www.ohiofoodbanks.quorum.us for more information and links for contacting our legislators and their leadership.

Secondly, the Proposed Budget includes cutting the Ohio Housing Trust Fund, which provides funding for those assisting people who are homeless, along with funding for development of low-income housing. More information is available at www.cohhio.org/advocacy.
