The Bridge – Fall 2024, Week 5

Happy Fall! Fall is my favorite season in Athens.  It looks like we aren’t going to get much color this year because of the lack of rain, but bring on the sweatshirt and hot chocolate weather!

REMINDER: We have moved our regular weekly gathering to Thursdays from 5:30-7PM at least for the semester.

Join us this THURSDAY the 26th downstairs at the church for dinner. We will be ordering from Firdous Express. Find the menu here: https://firdous-athens.com. The Bridge pays.  Please email your order to me aiming for ~$10 at thebridge@clcathens.org Come for food and community! (Anybody who is handy with online forms that could help me streamline the collecting and ordering process please let me know!)

Worship Sunday at 10AM.

The introduction for this week says: Someone who isn’t part of Jesus’ own circle is casting out demons in Jesus’ name, and the disciples want him stopped. They appeal to Jesus, as Joshua did to Moses about the elders who prophesied without official authorization. Like Moses, Jesus refuses to see this as a threat. Jesus welcomes good being done in his name, even when it is not under his control. The circle we form around Jesus’ word must be able to value good being done in ways we wouldn’t do it, by people we can’t keep tabs on.

Let’s talk about what this might mean at our Thursday gathering.
